Girls on the Run Greater Knoxville has inspired more than 4,000 girls to recognize their inner strength, increase physical activity, and build the confidence to stand up for themselves and others. Their evidence-based program does more than get girls moving; it helps them imagine new possibilities and develop key life skills that support mental well-being during a critical stage of growth.
A recent study shows just how impactful the program is: 85% of participants reported gains in confidence, caring, competence, and connection to others. These are four pillars of healthy mental and emotional development.
As a United Way of Greater Knoxville funded partner, Girls on the Run has been able to expand access to schools in under-resourced areas, tailoring its approach to meet each school’s unique needs. That partnership has helped rebuild programs in schools that were lost after COVID and open doors to new sites. It is also strengthening the wraparound support that students need to thrive.
“Working with UWGK’s Community Schools helped us better understand how to serve each school and deepen trust with families and educators,” said Executive Director Amelea Everett. “Those relationships are helping us grow and reach even more girls each season.”
With UWGK’s support, Girls on the Run is continuing to break down barriers so every girl has access to the tools, relationships, and confidence she needs to succeed both on and off the track.
