Delivering More Than Meals, Serving Dignity, Independence, and Hope.

Spotlight Agency: Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority (DCEA)

Across Union, Grainger, and Jefferson counties, the Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority (DCEA) has been a quiet force for good. Through programs that support every stage of life, from early childhood education to affordable housing and energy assistance, DCEA helps families and individuals take the next step forward.

One of their most impactful programs is Meals on Wheels. It’s more than food on a plate. It’s comfort, connection, and care delivered to the doorstep. For many older adults who are homebound or have limited mobility, a warm meal and a friendly face can make all the difference.

With support from United Way of Greater Knoxville, DCEA brings these meals to seniors who can’t shop or cook on their own. This partnership is especially important in rural areas, where access to groceries is limited by distance and transportation.

Each delivery is more than a meal. It’s a moment of connection, a wellness check, and a reminder that someone cares. For many, it’s the highlight of their day.

Alongside Meals on Wheels, DCEA provides services like LIHEAP energy assistance, Head Start, and Upward Bound. Their work meets urgent needs while helping people maintain their dignity and independence. With partners like United Way, DCEA is making sure no one in our community is forgotten.
