The quote below is from Andrew, a Knox County high school graduate from the class of 2012. Andrew reflects on the impact that the mentoring component of the tnAchieves program had on his experience.

“The opportunity to be in the tnAchieves program and have a mentor who you could ask questions, call, text and just talk to when having the smallest problem provided a resource that allowed me to be successful. The tnAchieves program also provided a network of people who cared about me as an individual and wanted to see me succeed and complete the goals that I had set for myself. With a team of people watching and hoping that you complete your degree and follow your dreams provided the strongest support in helping me push my way through college and begin making a difference in other students life on campus.”

Andrew started his college career at Pellissippi State Community College and then transferred to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He graduated in the summer of 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with a Major focus in Biochemical Cellular Molecular Biology.

United Way of Greater Knoxville is proud to partner with agencies like TNAchieves that provide stable and caring mentors to the kids in our community. Having a mentor means having someone to rely on, someone to turn to with fears and questions, and someone you know really cares about you- having a mentor can change your life. Change doesn’t happen alone. To live better, we must LIVE UNITED.
